Research Summary:
Overview (Digital Citizenship)-
The starting point of my research began at the Technology Tool Box for Educators; Digital Literacy Page. Here I have found useful information to help me understand digital literacy, digital citizenship and how a digital footprint is created. These 3 points are all vital to understanding the task. As all of the information has relevence to this unit and establishing my online, digital presence at the current time and into the future. Below are some of the strongest definitions I have found on the following terms-
Digital Literacy- "Is the ability to effectively and critically navigate, evaluate and create information using a range of online technologies" (Jenni Parker, 2012).
Digital Citizenship- "Is about understanding how to navigate, interact and communicate online" (Indiana Jen, 2014).
Digital Footprint- "Is everything on the internet about you" (The Open University UK, 2014).
Summary-
These 3 definitions can in theory summarize most of which I have done and learnt within this task. As in reflection have becoming increasing digital literacy by producing this website and blog. This can be shown as I have been critically evaluating which website generator would be best to create my website on and have even created an online digital poster for students to learn about identity theft and how to avoid it. Which is in essence creating information using online technologies in the form of my online poster.
Digital citizenship is nearly linked to your responsible and ethical ICT use as stated above, but in essence it means to act and behaviour appropriately in all online environments. Again I have been doing this throughout my website and my in my online experiences in life , as for example can be shown in the content I use in my blogs which is socially appropriate and professional for an education student online. Lastly being able to understand what a digital footprint is and how it can effect oneself I believe is integral for all online experiences, not just learning. Students and teachers alike need to be aware of what information they leave online and how it can negatively effect them in the future.
Poster-
When the time came to design my poster I started at the Technology Tool for Educators; Posters and Scrapbooks Page. I first found a link to a webpage called How To Make Your Own Infographic which had reviewed Infograph creation sites such as Piktochart and Infogra.am. After reading through the webpage I decided to go straight to Picktochart and decided to use this site due to its immense creativity, simple structure and good review from other students in the unit. Another useful website that I found was; Ways To Teach Using Infographs as it helped myself better understand what they are, why they are useful to student learning and how I can create an effective one myself.

Poster Description:
My poster has been created with the thought that there is a growing rate in which Identity Theft is occurring online and in an expanding variety of ways. I created this poster aimed at secondary education students because teenagers are increasingly spending more time in online environments such as facebook (A social networking site) and leaving larger digital footprints as a result. The message of my poster was meant to be simplistic, strong and clear. In the form of a few simple steps that can be taken to avoid identity theft and a list of the forms in which it can occur so students become aware of how it can occur. I found 2 Australian Government based websites which where very helpful when developing my poster and giving myself bulk of my information on identity theft, they where- I have used Piktochart v3 to create my online poster because it was effective to use and quick to create. |
My Poster: "How to Spot & Stop Identity Theft Online"
